KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.  Funerals and funeral planning are difficult events without the undue stress of someone taking advantage of you.  Most Funeral Directors would never dream of taking advantage of someone in that situation, but unfortunately, there are the exceptions. 

If you are unsure of your consumer rights under the Funeral Rules, or if you feel you have been treated unfairly, there are ways to file formal complaints.  It is extremely important to file a complaint in the event that you have attempted to do business with someone operating outside of the funeral guidelines established by the Federal Trade Commission.
